Wallets/Purses

Even after 11 years in the US, I still get confused sometimes at what to call things. For the most part I can translate words, but some things still get me. Like wallets and purses. To me, a wallet is something a man uses to keep his money in, and a purse is what a woman would use for the same thing. But it seems that in the US a purse is a bag, and a wallet is used for both genders? Will someone please enlighten me? I know the difference between biscuits and cookies, flip flops and jandals, swimsuits and togs, but wallets and purses? I STILL don't understand!

Which brings me to what I wanted to show you, and now I don't know what to call them, so I will call them money holder thingymajigs. How's that?!!

My friend Shannon is going to sell craft items at Market Square in Portsmouth NH this weekend and asked if I would make some wallets/purses/money holder thingymajigs for her to sell. She decorates them with crystals and makes them look amazing! So I spent some time the last couple of days and made a whole bunch. It was hard to hand them over to her - I wanted to keep them all! But I don't have enough money to fill them all so I guess I'll let her sell them :)

Gorgeous! Yes, the purse is the bag in which you keep your wallet :)

Both genders carry wallets. They're used to hold cash, credit cards and the like. A woman would carry a purse to carry her wallet, lipstick, a brush, and any other thing (sippy cup, snacks, etc..) that finds it's way in there! I hope this helps!!

I call them wallets. Wallets are used to carry money, credit cards & photos. Men's and women's wallets are styled differently. Women's wallets sometimes have extras to them. Such as a place for a check book, a pen, a loop for keys, a little mirror. A purse or handbag is what carries the wallet and everything else a woman carries.

Those are adorable! I can think of so many things that would be well-carried in these little pouches (not to add to your confusion!). My iPod earbuds immediately spring to mind!!!

Those little purses are just too gorgeous. I think purse for a lady, wallet for a man, and a handbag is what you keep it all in. Unless you are a man that found "man-bags" very handy in the 80's!

I would call them a coin purse to pop in my handbag! My husband has what I would call a wallet, I'm with you girl!
Besides that they look really cute!!!

They look wonderful. I hope that they were all snapped up and sold.

Don't get me started on regionalisms in english. I'm sure I'd get a funny look at the stationary shop asking for a rubber and pad,for writing, you know.

For the record I call them Pocket Purses. They fit just right in my back pocket when I need just a few things, but I think their uses are endless! I've even added schmancy swarovski crystals to some of them...GORGEOUS~! Theyare up for sale too, they did pretty well at the craft show and got loads of great feedback!

Well they are really cute and clever. I would call them card holders. Lots of cute names could be made up though. You're funny. But they are so darling, keep making them.
