Hot Dogs
So I just made the boys and I some lunch - they asked for hot dogs and it sounded good to me. It's shopping night tonight so the fact that I happened to have everything I needed to make them was a miracle in itself.
I made theirs, then mine, and got to thinking - what do you put on your hotdogs? For me, I love mayo, BBQ sauce and a little mustard. My hubby thinks it is the most disgusting combination he's ever seen - he has a very weak stomach when it comes to anything mayo-related though, so that may be why! If I were going all out eg hotdogs for dinner as opposed to just the kids and I for lunch, I would also cook up some onions and put cheese on top and throw them under the broiler for a minute. Mmmm!
Did anyone see the PBS special a few years back when they travelled around America finding the best hot dogs?! Oh it was so good - I remember we went out and bought all the fixin's for every kind of hot dog you can think of and it's all we ate for a month LOL!! I even saw on that show that I'm not the only mayo-on-my-hotdog-lover!
I know this post is totally non-quilt related, so I photographed my hot dogs on a quilt. See, I can work it in if I have to!!
So the question remains - what do you like on your hotdogs?!
I love pickels, onions and mustard!!
ReplyDeleteI'm with your husband.... GROSS!!!
ReplyDeleteFor a long while I would eat nothing more than relish on a hotdog. I've gotten a bit more wild and will now eat ketchup, mustard and relish. My avorite relish though has got to be dill pickle relish. MMMMMM!!!!!
Feel free to pop by and say hello.
I'm a ketchup/mustard/onions/pickle relish type of hot dog girl! Of course the moment I put on the ketchup my husband just has to quote that line from Dirty Harry - "Nobody, but nobody, puts ketchup on a hot dog anymore!"
ReplyDeleteMy DH is a mayo on the dog kind of guy - BLECK! I think its gross. To each their own! :) I like plain old mustard and ketchup (unless I'm going all out and I'll brown up some onions, then its mustard & relish!) Off to go make some hotdogs for lunch.... ~Jessica
ReplyDeleteok, ketchup, yellow mustard and sweet relish. BUT sometimes I get a hankering for a cheese chili dog! Oh my, oh my...but since I have health issues now did you know that I have given up the SAD diet? That's the Standard American Diet, lol! And that means white flour, white sugar, corn syrup, nitrites and chemicals, like what on earth will I eat! I am an official health nut so that I can like this thing in my body and stick around for the kids. BUT I can get those kosher 'good' hotdogs one of these days. Good photo.

I know you will be shocked but I think I am the one other person in America who watched that hot dog program! LOL I was gonna wait until I posted it to tell you...ok fine...I will tell, just don't get so excited!! But, I got you a pressie, which obviously I am probably more excited about. We are going to CT for mothers day I think so we need to figure out a play date soon!
ReplyDeleteAnd I love the dog in all forms, toppings depend on the day and type of dog. We will have to try a few out. Say hi to Sofia and the boys. Love Stacy
Joanna,
ReplyDeleteHi Joanna, this is Moana responding back to your post. I definately remember your family. You are correct I do have a brother name Kawiti after my great grandfather Chief Maihi Parone Kawiti. You have a great memory! Did you go to school with my older brother Clint? He is about your age, I am just barely 2 years younger then you and so we probably passed paths here and there! My family has been back here in the US for about 20 years now with my parents returning in 2000 for a year. They were taking the younger 8 kids back to NZ so that they could have the chance to live there like us older 8. Your quilts are amazing!! As to your hotdog question, I am a mayo kinda girl as well! I especially love mayo, ketchup, red onions, and then grilling the hot dog! I also prefer turkey dogs and whole wheat buns so that as I am indulging I dont feel sooo guilty, just half guilty! Thanks for saying hi, its always nice to hear from someone from TV!! Hey did you go to the reunion? Where is your family now?? Hey thanks for the shout out, I will definately be checking back with you again! Much aroha!
Moana
PS,
ReplyDeleteI also saw that PBS special and wanted to sample for myself some of the awesome hot dog concoctions! Yummy!
I love hot dogs! I eat mine with mustard, sweet pickle relish and onions.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great Mother's Day!
mayo on hot dogs sounds yucky but BBQ sauce on hot dogs sounds worse...I think I need to broaden my hot dog eating horizons...hmmmm, my ketchup and mustard are sounding too boring, LOL!
ReplyDeleteA hotdog for me has to have lovely fried onions on it and ball park mustard and sweet pickle relish. NO ketchup please! (although I have been known to do cheese and bacon as well) My mom made the best hotdogs. All the kids in the neighborhood vied for the gift of an invite to "Hot Dog Night!"
