Lasagne Garden update
Well I have enough time to do a little post, so I thought I'd show you the Lasagne Garden progress. I took the above photo the day before I left, a week ago. And you can see in my last post that the tomato plants have tomatoes on them! And most amazing of all - hubby has watered the garden. Yes I just about fainted when he told me. Of course the abundance of rain in NH this week has helped him out.
So far, so good. The great Lasagne Garden experiement is working!
I'm in Utah!
And am the worst blogger ever! I have just been so busy visiting old friends and family, and have hardly sat at the computer. But tonight is the night! We had a great flight from NH - my kids were amazingly good. Completely shocking! I even managed to do some applique on the plane. The very next morning we headed out for the day to see "Grandma" (my MIL) but first stopped by "East High" where they are filming High School Musical 3 - if you have a daughter in elementary school like I do, you will understand the excitement! Then we headed down to American Fork where Grandma got to see her grandbabies for the first time in 2 years. The kids were so excited! Then we went to the Utah Valley quilt guild, where I met two blogging friends. First was Nanette who did the most wonderful trunk show - I don't think she ever sleeps because the output of that woman is amazing! Such beautiful quilts, and she had goodies for us all. Plus I think Nanette was born to talk in public - she says she was nervous but you never would have guessed!
And then at the end of the main meeting, I was tapped on the shoulder and a lady said, "Hi, I'm Karen - I know you from your blog!" Can you imagine meeting TWO blogging friends in one day?!!! Hi to both of you!
Sunday we got to go to church in the old ward we were in before we moved and though there were a lot of new faces there were my good old faithful friends too! It was just so wonderful to see my best friends from Salt Lake, Irene and Nanette, (a different Nanette from the quilting Nanette - yes I obviously collect friends called Nanette) and I can't wait to spend more time with them.
This Wednesday we are going camping with my SIL and some friends. We are off to Casper, Wyoming, and will get to see Mount Rushmore (or as I say, "the place with the presidents in the rock" - because I'm not American and though I could tell you the names of everything in NZ, I am quite hopeless at American place names. I even had to just ask my SIL the name of "the place with the presidents in the rock" to write it here for you, because I had no idea. I actually was going to write Mount Rainier. Go figure.)
We will be gone for a week, and I doubt that there is a lot of internet access in a tent in a campground in Custer State Park, so I will get blogging again when we get back!
I apologize in advance if I don't reply to anyone for the next week or so - I hope you understand! But I just had to check in tonight. And I need some sympathy as I am giving up the Wasatch Front Shop Hop to go camping. Boo hoo for me. Just remind me of priceless memories for my children or something like that, OK??!!
And PS - hubby sent me pictures of my Lasagne garden which is still thriving - and most exciting of all, my tomato plants have little green tomatoes!

New bag and new 'do'!
Since we had a heatwave here in NH for 4 days over the weekend, I spent a lot of time in the basement in my quilt room. Probably because it was 98 outside and probably 78 in the basement! And as a result, I got a lot of sewing done. My very favorite thing I did was this bag...
I just love the combination of the orange Amy Butler dots and the orange Kaffe fabric - they scream creamsicle to me! And just to make it really girly I added a ruffle to the outside pocket and some pink ric-rac. There is no doubt that this is a girly-girl bag!
Onto the new 'do' part of the title - I had a haircut a couple of weeks ago. Usually nothing major in one's life, except I hadn't had one for 2 years and my hair was down to my waist. I think this is a vast improvement - so much fresher and easier to look after. Much healthier looking too - tends to happen when you hack off dry and frizzy split ends! It took me this long to figure out that hubby's camera has a timer function on it and that it is quite simple to use. I hate that he insists on having the date on his photos. Silly man! And it is a little fuzzy, but hey I was doing this all by myself!
Tuesday the kids and I are off to Utah for almost the whole Summer vacation - 6 weeks! We are super excited. I will no doubt find all sorts of quilty and non-quilty things to blog about:) And the very day after we arrive, I get to meet Nanette from Freda's Hive! If you haven't already, you must visit her blog - she does such fantastic stuff.

I did some applique!
Yes I am here. Can you believe it? And I have applique to show you. Woo Hoo!
My daughter was invited to a birthday party this weekend for a little girl in her class, Rebecca. Rebecca has cancer and as a result has hardly been in school this year. So Sofia was very excited to go to her party. We thought it would be nice to do something extra special for Rebecca, so we made her a framed letter 'R' and a matching bag. Sofia picked the fabrics, I did the sewing. It was very hard for Sofia to give the bag away - of course she wanted to keep it for herself once she saw it made up. She chose the blue/pink floral which is by Valori Wells, and I happened to have the perfect pink for the letter R, which was sent to me by Valori a few weeks ago in her giveaway. Perfect!
I also was a busy little bee making bags this weekend, but I'll save those to show you in a couple of days. I have to save something for another post, right?!

UpStateLisa Giveaway
Quickly, get yourselves over to Lisa's Blog and leave a comment and you could win the adorable quilt she made! But you must do it soon as it finishes today. I love Lisa's blog - always something fun and interesting to read, and I think she should be called UpDATELisa because she updates her blog far more often than I do lol!!
Thank you all for the comments about the new garden experiment. The plants are in and so far are thriving! I think the tomato plants have just about doubled their size since Friday when I planted them. And the cucumbers and watermelon both have sets of real leaves, not just the little round ones they came with. Yes I get excited easily!
