Poll time

Get ready to vote - look on the right, there is a poll!

I need your help choosing an inner border for my latest quilt. I was at Brenda's until midnight the other night, and we auditioned a whole bunch of fabrics. We settled on the dark brown for the outer border and narrowed it down to two for the narrower inner one. But do you think we could decide? Oh no, it just didn't happen. So now you get to give your 5 cents worth!

The lighter yellow has a calming effect on the quilt. It tones down all the brightness, and picks up a couple of the paler fabrics I used in the quilt. It doesn't have quite the 'zing' I usually go for, but it definitely works, and I like it. It gives the eyes a place to rest.

The bright yellow has the aforementioned 'zing', and the same fabric is used in the quilt. It is bright enough that it can shine all by itself and not be overtaken by the blocks. This was the first fabric I pulled to audition, and was my first instinct. I am in love with it. However, is it too bright? Do your eyes go to the bright yellow and nothing else?

So which do you prefer? Why? Help a girl out here! I think either will work, for different reasons, and I am very interested to see what you all have to say. And don't forget to vote over on the right!

Oh and by the way, did you notice the quilt top itself? Isn't it marvelous?!! I am SO in love with it - I can't tell you how excited I am to get it finished and up on the wall!

  1. So great! I vote for the yellow, who wants to tone this beauty down? Really, I like it either way.

  2. I love the cream border. The yellow draws your eye away from the center of the quilt directly to the strip of yellow. The cream frames the quilt and keeps your eye where it belongs, on the quilt. Just my opinion. Good luck selecting the border. Regardless, the quilt is a beauty!!

  4. I thought about this one forever, like it was my own quilt!! Jeessh LOL I like the lighter yellow better. I think the brighter yellow is a bit too distracting. But really they both look great!

  5. I have to agree with the others. The bright yellow is great but it takes away to much from your beautiful quilt.

  6. I have to say that there are different pro's for each but my preference is the brighter yellow. I think it is in character with the rest of the fabrics.
Bye the way I love the Pineapple Blossom blocks done your way. I need to get my president's blocks out and you can see how it looks in greens!

  8. I said bright yellow. It looks great. Though the pale yellow would also work.

  9. Both would work but I prefer the yellow as the quilt is bright but the borders will look softer with the lighter colour. Yes it's a great top!

  11. Strlady articulated what I didn't have the art language to say to you. The lighter color puts your eye where all the hard work you did is, in the center of the quilt. Looking at the photos on a bigger screen, not on your cell phone, makes me realize that the lighter color isn't so bad.

  12. I mean brighter color to clarify! Why can't you edit your own comments?

  15. NO, NO, NO! The yellows just pull your eye from the quilt interior! Consider a bluegreen? You only have a couple of pieces of it on the edge. Of course, we always differ on design ethics. Love your design. I may have to get stitching my variations right away.

  16. I like the bright yellow. It really pulls the yellow out of the center.. that pale color does absolutely nothing for the quilt top...

  17. As far as I'm concerned: the bright yellow (and I'm not even a 'bright fabric person' ):-)), but it seems to bring out all the colours in the top, fantastic! And I think: allways follow your instinct.

  18. I like them both. i also agree that the bright yellow boarder does bring your eye from the quilt to the boarder. I agree with Carmen M. with the bluegreen, might be make the whole thing pop.!
but if i have to pick boy that is a hard one... i think the pale yellow one would win

  22. Did Roland seriously go for the bright yellow? I vote for whichever will match your new paint color. Ha. And whichever looks best with your new ceiling fan.

  23. I voted for the bright yellow. It really makes the other yellows pop.

  24. I really like the lighter of the two yellows with the darker brown border. Fantastic quilt either way. The bold yellow is an excellent option as well, but I personally would prefer the softer version, long term.
